What is CorMedin®?

CorMedin is a pimobendan product available in 1.25 mg, 2.5 mg and 5 mg sizes. CorMedin can be used to treat canine congestive heart failure (CHF) originating from dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) or valvular insufficiency (mitral and / or tricuspid regurgitation).

How does it work?

Pimobendan has a dual action mechanism. It exhibits positive inotropic effects through sensitisation of the cardiac muscle to calcium, allowing cardiac contractions to be more efficient without utilising additional oxygen. Pimobendan also inhibits the action of phosphodiesterase (type III) in vascular smooth muscle, resulting in vasodilation, helping to reduce workload on the heart.
